On The Day

Registration and reporting times

Event registration will be held in twentyone which is located on the third floor of SKYCITY. All team members will need to come to registration at your given reporting time to pick up your team event pack.

Please remember to bring your photo ID with you to registration.

Your team event pack will include:

  • Race numbers
  • Timing chips
  • A parking pass for SKYCITY (one per team)
  • 2017 Step Up Sky Tower Stair Challenge t-shirts

All participants must provide identification to receive your race number. If your ID does not match your information you will be unable to race on the day.  There will be no exceptions to this rule due to strict security requirements.

What to wear

Most teams report to registration ready to go in the clothes and shoes they will race in. Please make sure you wear appropriate footwear and attire for this event. We recommend sturdy well supported running shoes and comfortable sportswear. There will be toilets to get changed in and limited storage for bags.

Health and safety

We take your wellbeing very seriously and want to ensure you are ready for the challenge ahead! Please make sure you and your teammates are well hydrated on race day and have had something to eat before you climb. You will be given a safety briefing on the day which you can read here.

It is vital that you do not climb if you have been unwell in the lead up to the event.

The climb

After registration, your team will be allocated a ‘wave -time’ which is the time that you’ll start your climb. When your wave is called, you will be walked from the meeting point down to the start line at the bottom of the tower for a final safety briefing. You will enter the stairs and start with a lap around the base of the Sky Tower – this is where your spectators can see you and cheer you on – then enter the stairs again and up you go!

Sky Tower passes

Sky Tower passes will be available for purchase on event day at a discounted rate for participants and supporters.

Child multiple entry Sky Tower pass: $6

Adult multiple entry Sky Tower pass: $15


You will need to park in the Lower Federal Street car park on the day (the one on the right-hand side in the diagram below). Please note you will be issued with one parking permit per team, so it will pay to travel together to the venue.


The day will end with a casual prize-giving function to acknowledge the top fundraisers and race time winners. It will be held at twentyone bar from 6pm until 7pm. Each participant will receive a complimentary drink and food will be provided.

Please note this is an R18 venue so anyone under the age of 18 is not permitted in the venue including your children. Younger supporters can still cheer you on at the finish line at the top of the Sky Tower!
